First meeting on the LIMES project
On January 22-23, 2019, on the initiative of the Limes Commission in Bulgaria, the First International Workshop of the Representatives of the Eastern Sector of the Danube Limes (Bulgaria,Serbia, Romania and Croatia) and consultants from the Danube Limes Western Sector (Germany, Austria and Hungary) took place. The meeting was held in view of the preparatory process for the nomination of the Eastern Sector of the Danube Limes for UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
As initiator and host of the meeting, the Bulgarian team has prepared and submitted ideas for a timetable for joint action of the four Eastern Sector countries in the next two years and a standardized database to gather information about Limes sites as well as the setting up of an international contact group to coordinate the dossier process in the four Eastern countries.
The meeting was led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lyudmil Vagalinski (Chairman of the Limes Commission in Bulgaria, NAIM - BAS) and Dr. Arch. Silva Sabkova (Secretary of the Limes Commission in Bulgaria, NAIM - BAS). The Secretary-General of the National Commission for UNESCO Mr. Hristo Georgiev also took part in the meeting.
