2010 - International Year of Biodiversity
2010 - declared the International Year of Biodiversity (MGBR) is a unique event in the history of the United Nations, which is regulated by the UN General Assembly Resolution 61/203. International Year of intentions are to increase public awareness about the importance of biodiversity and the consequences of its loss. Targets are also promoting involvement of various organizations to implement and enforce the Convention on Biological Diversity. Year must take into account the degree of attainment of the objective Halting biodiversity loss by 2010 and thereafter. "
The ceremony in Montreal for the official opening of MGBR, in November 2009, attended by more than 500 participants, representatives of Member States of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the Secretary General of the United Nations noted in his address, that the purpose of international 2010 to bring together the governments of 193 member states of the Convention and the citizens of their countries "to work together to protect life on Earth.
