The system of schools associated with UNESCO was founded in 1953 from 33 schools in 15 Member States of the Organization. It includes more than 8500 schools in 180 countries and is one of the most successful long-term UNESCO initiatives for Śngagement and participation of young people in its programs.
UNESCO Associated Schools in Bulgaria are over 50. They work on several major projects at national and international level, such as "Blue Danube», «The Art of Synergy" and others. The projects are with special focus on different UNESCO priority fields of activity, such as environmental protection, promotion and protection of cultural heritage, education for democratic citizenship, human rights and others.
Bulgarian schools wishing to join the ASU system of UNESCO should apply by sending an official letter to the National Coordinator of ASU, Ms.Krasimira Todorova/ firstname.lastname@example.org; tel. +359 2 921 77 35.
The applications are considered by the Bureau of National Commission for UNESCO.
